The UbD model of education and authentic assessments requires students to learn the knowledge and skills within a content area. The Habits of Mind teach students important skills in the classroom and the world by focusing on the process of learning, not just the product. Most importantly, students learn to APPLY that knowledge and those skills in different contexts -- in the real world. The application of the knowledge to different contexts requires creative thinking and imagination, as students are required to look at the knowledge and use the skills to discover ways to apply them in new and innovative ways.
