I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all an early Happy New Years! We have experienced a year full of twists and turns and challenges in 2020. I wish you all good luck in 2021.
May your whole family be healthy, safe and auspicious this year!
Our biannual speech contest every semester has been an excellent tradition of Living Word Shanghai, and everytime I am proud and looking forward to judging the contest along with our panel of parents. It is one of my favorite jobs.
Our children’s witty words and sharp and unique thinking have brought us countless surprises that left a deep impressions. Their works of the moment are engraved in our hearts.
Extending school education to the family is the original intention of our speech contest. Every time I set the topic for the speech contest for the children, I also consider it as a "homework" for mom and dad. As parents, we are always helping our children prepare for the future and hoping that one day in the future they will become an independent and strong individuals with good behavior habits, unique perspectives and innovation abilities. What we need to do most is stroking the flames of their curiosity, encouraging them to ask "why", not just providing answers to their "what" questions. To protect and nurture their "curiosity, imagination, and creativity" is the mission of every parent!
Therefore, the topics I selected for children of different grades this semester are as follows:
Grades 1- 3: Before I turn 18 years old, what kind of special qualities will mom and dad help me develop?
Grades 4-6: How do my parents teach me to overcome failures and setbacks? Give specific examples
Grades 7-9: How do my parents tell me I did something right? What should I do if I do something wrong?
I often tell children that most successful people in history who have influence on the world have a very important ability, they are all good storytellers. I often tell children that most of the successful and influential people in history have a very important ability. Everyone is a good storyteller. As a leader, if they want to do something influential and beneficial to the world one day, they must get the trust, recognition, cooperation and dedication of others. All these require their own communication skills. The focus of the speech contest is not only speaking, but also expressing themselves. How to express your opinions clearly, and how to use corresponding gestures, body language and creative tools to enhance the effect of expression is also essential.
Therefore, I hope that every child will prepare carefully, actively participate in the preliminary competition after the beginning of the new semester, and strive to show themselves in front of the whole class, so as to enter the finals of the competition. If our children can have the ability to communicate and tell stories at a very young age, I believe that in the future life, they will become very important abilities in their life and career development, something that can benefit them for life!
Thank you for your cooperation and support. I wish each child a healthy, safe and meaningful winter vacation and Happy New Year!
